A tsunami caused by a landslide is harder to predict as it can happen on every kind of shoreline and even lakes. The landslide material will displace the water, which causes water to spread rapidly out in all directions. The resulting wave may not have enough power to reach across the ocean as waves generated by mid-ocean quakes do, however the local effects can be devastating.
